Former Republican Governor Larry Hogan announces on his personal website that he's running for US Senate in Maryland.
"Today, Washington is completely broken," he says in a campaign launch video.
There had been some speculation that Hogan might run for president this year, though he announced early last year that he wouldn't be seeking the Republican nomination.
Hogan served as Maryland's Governor from 2015 until 2023.
Senator Ben Cardin, a Democrat, is not seeking re-election which opened up an opportunity for a competitive Democratic primary for the seat.
Prince George's County Executive Angela Alsobrooks and Representative David Trone are both seeking the Democratic nomination.
The deadline to file for candidacy is 9 p.m. tonight.
The primary election is on May 14th.
