Dingell wrote to her friends that her "heart was broken" as she mourned the loss of her one true love.

"My true love is gone. The tears are flowing pretty freely as I miss the man that made me whole. One can know it is coming, but nothing prepares you for the hole in your heart. He was my one and only true love," she wrote.

Debbie Dingell's office released a statement yesterday saying John "died peacefully" at his Dearborn home Thursday night. He was 92.

John and Debbie Dingell had been married since 1981. John Dingell was the longest-serving Democrat in the House of Representatives at the time of his retirement in 2015. Debbie Dingell succeeded him, winning an election in 2014.
