A 10-year-old boy is recovering from serious injuries after he fell into the Niagara Gorge when he sat on a railing so his mother could take his picture.

Niagara Parks Police say the boy and his family were visiting from out of the country.  He sat on the gorge railing to pose for a picture Sunday afternoon, and fell backwards when he tried to adjust the way he was sitting on the railing.  Police estimate he fell about 80 feet to the gorge floor.

Parks Police, the High Angle River Team, Niagara Falls Fire Department and other emergency crews were able to locate the boy.  He was stabilized for his injuries, and transported by Air Orange to McMaster Children's Hospital in Hamilton, Ontario.  He was last reported in serious but stable condition.
