It has been a week marred by tragedy as law enforcement officials in Wisconsin and Ohio were shot and killed while doing their jobs.

In Milwaukee, an officer was shot this morning while serving a search warrant. The identity of the officer has not been released. TMJ4 in Milwaukee reports the victim is a tactical unit officer in his 30s.

He was a member of the MPD for 17 years, officials said in a news conference this afternoon.

Fellow police officers were seen gathered in a circle at the site of the crime; most had their heads down and were grief-stricken.

The suspect in the shooting is in custody.

In Batavia, Ohio, near Cincinnati, a Sheriff's deputy identified as Bill Brewer was shot and killed Sunday after a standoff when he attempted to aid a person inside an apartment who tried to kill himself. The person ambushed Brewer and a second deputy, who was wounded and survived.

Brewer, a married father of a 5-year-old son, has been in law enforcement since 1998.

His funeral is this Friday.

Last week, five Houston police officers were injured while investigating a suspected drug case. Four of the five were shot, and a fifth suffered a knee injury.

Two suspects in the case were killed at the home where the investigation took place, police said.

Also last week, police in Chicago sought two men who threatened to shoot and kill police officers in multiple videos posted to social media. In one of the videos a man records a marked police SUV and says, "I'm gonna kill him."

Just yesterday, a Salina County, Kansas Sheriff's Office deputy was injured in a shootout with a suspect in a carjacking. The suspect fired multiple rounds at law enforcement officers during a pursuit.

Debris from a round fired at the deputy's vehicle hit him in the face, and he was taken into surgery. The suspect was taken into custody.
