The number of hate groups across the country is at an all-time high.

The Southern Poverty Law Center conducted a new report. It revealed there are 1,020 hate groups in the United States right now. That's a 7 percent increase from 2017.

In Maryland, the report says there are 21 active hate groups right now.

Researchers say the number of these groups has increased over the last four years.

The report also says Ku Klux Klan membership and neo-Nazi outfits are down.
