The University at Buffalo is apologizing after mistakenly sending out thousands of acceptance letters to potential students.

In a statement, UB officials explained there was a miscommunication when an incorrect email list was generated from an applicant database, leading to more than 5,000 acceptance letters being sent out to potential students via email.

The potential students’ applications are still being reviewed.

UB officials said within hours after the error was found, a second email was sent to potential students and their families explaining what happened and offering an apology.

The university says it has taken steps to make sure this doesn’t happen again in the future.
