CAROLINE CO., Md. — Maryland Natural Resources Police charged a Sergeant with the Caroline County Sheriff's Office with rape and several other charges after an incident that happened on a boat in July 2018.

According to Caroline County Sheriff's office, a victim reported the incident to them on September 2018. They later notified Natural Resources Police since the crime happened on a boat in their jurisdiction. Caroline County then opened an internal investigation alongside the NRP’s criminal investigation.

Natural Resources Police later charged 48-year-old Sergeant Kevin John Nagyiski on Wednesday afternoon with second degree rape, third degree sex offense, fourth degree sexual contact and second degree assault.

Caroline County Sheriff Randy Bounds released a statement on the charges against Nagyiski.

I take these charges profoundly seriously and respect the diligence and care taken by both the Natural Resources Police and the Grand Jury. It’s important our community knows our Sheriff’s Office values transparency and sharing critical information with the public.

Sheriff Bounds says Nagyiski has had his police powers suspended and was placed on administrative leave in September.

Nagyiski has since been released on $50,000 unsecured bond.
