Man trapped in vehicle after a serious collision in Mt. Airy

MT. AIRY, Md. — Carroll County Sheriffs are investigating a serious single motor vehicle collision in Mt. Airy Monday morning.

Officials said at 7:13 a.m., deputies and Emergency Medical and Rescue crews from both Carroll and Frederick Counties responded to the 3800 block of Mt. Airy Drive for the report of a single-vehicle collision with entrapment. There, they found a white 2003 Ford truck which had left the roadway and struck a tree.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the 52-year-old driver, Richard William Munday of Mt. Airy, was trapped due to the severity of the damage to the vehicle.

The rescue crews were able to extricate Munday from the vehicle, and he was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center by Maryland State Police helicopter Trooper 1.

Deputies said Mt. Airy Drive remained closed while the Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit continued their investigation. Mt. Airy Drive later reopened at approximately 11:00 a.m.
