Police are investigating a head-on crash in Arundel County that left one man in serious condition.
Just before 8:00 p.m. on Labor Day firefighters were called to the 4900 block of Sands Road, near Wallace Place, for a reported two car accident.
Investigators learned a Saturn being driven by 72-year-old Joseph Barnes of Clinton was driving north on Sands Road when it crossed into the southbound lane hitting a Chevrolet, driven by 52-year-old Ronald Gilbert of Harwood, head-on.
After the crash, Barnes was trapped in his vehicle and had to be extricated by firefighters. He was then flown to Shock Trauma with injuries officials said that were critical and possibly life threatening.
Gilbert received minor injuries but refused medical treatment at the scene.
Investigators say speed was likely a contributing factor in this crash and there were no signs of drugs or alcohol.
The Traffic Safety Section is investigation and charges, if any, will be pending after review by the State's Attorney.
