A 12-year-old girl was struck and killed while crossing a road Tuesday evening in Hanover, Anne Arundel County Police said.

Officers responded to Clark Road, near Linda Place, at about 8:06 p.m. for reports of a crash involving a juvenile pedestrian, police said. An early investigation revealed a 12-year-old Hanover girl, Julianna Forgrave, was crossing Clark Road when she was struck by a Toyota traveling west on the road that did not see her.

Forgrave was taken to Baltimore Washington Medical Center with life threatening injuries. She was then taken to Johns Hopkins pediatrics, where she eventually succumb to her injuries.

Police said the preliminary cause of the death was pedestrian error, and that speed may have also contributed to the crash. The driver of the Toyota, 55-year-old Gregory Allen Springs of Hanover, remained on the scene. Police do not believe alcohol was a factor. The crash is being investigated by the Traffic Safety Section, and their findings will be reviewed by the Anne Arundel County State’s Attorney’s Office.
