29-year-old woman killed in crash with a dump truck in Anne Arundel County

A 29-year-old woman was killed in a crash involving a dump truck in Anne Arundel County Thursday.

At approximately 9:45 a.m. officers responded to a two vehicle head on crash on northbound Sands Road in Lothian.

Ashley Barnett was driving the Chevy southbound on Sands Road when she crossed the centerline on a curve prior to Ed Prout Road and struck a Mack dump truck head on, investigators said.

According to fire officials, Barnett was not wearing a seatbelt and the impact of the collision ejected her from the vehicle.

Barnett was transported to MedStar Washington Medical Center by U.S. Park Police helicopter with critical injuries, where she later died.

Norman Catterton the driver of the dump truck suffered minor injuries and refused medical treatment.

There was no indication drugs or alcohol contributed to the crash, authorities said. Witnesses reported the Chevy was driving at an excessive speed prior to the crash.

The crash remains under investigation and any charges are pending review by the States Attorney.
