UPDATE: 3 hurt in helicopter crash near BWI

A BGE helicopter crashed down in a wooded area near the BWI Airport causing a brush fire Saturday afternoon.

The crash was in the area of Aviation Boulevard which is between the BWI MARC station and Old Stoney Run Road.

Maryland State Police, Maryland Transportation Authority Police, Anne Arundel County Police, fire, and rescue personnel responded to the crash.

Federal authorities at the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board were notified of the crash, and were also on the scene.

The three people on board have been identified as the pilot, Owen J. Garnett, 42, of Montrose, PA, and two passengers, Kevin A. Tennis, 29, of Colora, MD, and Jordan M. Marsh, 34, of Monkton, MD. 

Police are saying the passengers were checking power lines in the area when the crashed occurred.

There were no serious injuries in the crash and all were rushed to the Baltimore Washington Medical Center for evaluation as a precaution.

There aren’t any leads in the cause of the crash but federal authorities are still investigating.

The helicopter is owned by Sky River Helicopters of Pittstown, NJ.
