Five people were injured, including four firefighters, after a fire department vehicle got into a crash with a car on Wednesday, according to the Anne Arundel County Fire Department.

Fire officials say that firefighters were dispatched around 12:40 p.m. to Ritchie Highway and Georgia Avenue after hearing about an accident where a person was trapped in their car.

On the way to the scene, the firefighters were involved in their own collision at Ritchie Highway and Aquahart Road with a sedan.

Four firefighters in the fire department vehicle, and the sedan driver, a 17-year old boy, were transported to hospitals.

The 17-year-old was taken to R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center with injuries that are possibly serious, but not life-threatening.

The firefighters were taken to Baltimore Washington Medical Center with minor injuries.

Other firefighters were able to get the scene of the trapped driver and get them out.

The accident involving the fire department vehicle is under investigation by the Anne Arundel County Police.
