60 firefighters respond to barn fire in Anne Arundel County

Posted

A fire early Monday morning destroyed a barn and its contents in Lothian, Anne Arundel County fire officials said.

Firefighters responded to the 200 block of Farmhouse Lane around 1:45 a.m. They arrived and found "a large barn completely involved in fire and already beginning to collapse," officials said.

In total, 60 firefighters, from Anne Arundel, Calvert and Prince George's counties, and the City of Annapolis, responded to the fire to assist with water supply and to rotate personnel, because of high heat and humidity.

The fire was controlled in about an hour, officials said. The last units cleared the scene around 6:30 a.m., after clearing hot spots in the debris.

Paramedics transported one Anne Arundel firefighter to be treated for a heat-related illness. His condition is not believed to be serious, fire officials said.

No dollar loss has been set yet, officials said. The incident is under investigation by the Anne Arundel County Fire Department Fire and Explosives Investigations Unit.
