ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Annapolis Police said officers arrested and charged a man accused of raping a juvenile in early May.
Officers were notified of a child being sexually abused from the family of a 12-year-old Annapolis girl on May 1. The family of the victim believed she had sexual contact with the adult male, police identified as 21-year-old Neftali Chavez.
The department said the family came to this conclusion based on home items and electronic evidence.
Detectives leading the investigation, along with the victim's relatives, obtained a protective order preventing Chavez from having any contact with the juvenile. According to police, Chavez reportedly made contact with the victim after the protective order was granted.
Chavez was arrested on May 25 and charged with second-degree rape, third-degree sex offense, perverted practice and violation of a protection order.
