Anne Arundel County experiences violent weekend

ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, Md. — It was a violent weekend in Anne Arundel County where one man was killed and officers shot at another.

The violent weekend started Saturday night as police say an 18-year-old man was at the Elvaton pool with a group of friends. They were approached by another group and someone in that group shot and killed Kyriq Devinhire.

The violence continued as shots rang out Sunday morning shortly before 6 a.m.

Police were called here to the 100 block of Olen Drive of Glen Burnie. When they arrived they discovered a car full of bullet holes. They also discovered a suspect's name.

"They did a search warrant on the suspect, his residence and his vehicle and located numerous firearms," said Sgt. Jacklyn Davis.

Police charged Larry Ricks III with 4 counts of attempted 1st degree murder, but county detectives weren’t done yet.

A call came in from a Cape St. Clair man who said his ex-boyfriend is at his house and he has a knife. Police headed that way with lights and sirens.

"While we were en route, the suspect actually called in on his self and said he had a gun," said Davis.

Police found 21-year-old Hunter Hodgson with a butterfly knife. Police say the officer tried to approach Hodgson.

"And that’s when the suspect turned around on the officer with a knife. Our officer shot several rounds and that suspect was transported to an area hospital," said Davis.

After Hodgson was released from he hospital. He admitted to lunging at the officer with the knife. He was arrested and booked.
