Bay Bridge toll plaza crash leaves car on its side, two entrapped

MILLERSVILLE, Md. — Two people were trapped inside a car after colliding with another vehicle Thursday night at a toll booth prior to the Bay Bridge, the Anne Arundel County Fire Department said.

At about 7:30 p.m., a two-vehicle crash at the Toll Plaza of the Bay Bridge on eastbound U.S-50/301 was reported. One vehicle was on its side, with firefighters arriving to find two occupants entrapped in the sedan as it was wedged across the exit of the toll plaza lane. In about 20 minutes, both of the car’s occupants were extricated, fire officials said.

A 20-year-old man who was in the car sustained serious, possibly life threatening injuries. The other occupant sustained serious injuries that were not thought to be life threatening. Both were transported to the R Adam Cowley Trauma Center in Baltimore. An occupant of the other car involved sustained minor injuries and was transported to the Anne Arundel Medical Center.

Emergency personnel from the Annapolis Fire Department, the Naval District Washington - Naval Academy Fire and Emergency Services, the Kent Island Volunteer Fire Department, and the Grasonville Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene. The Maryland Transportation Authority Police are investigating the crash.
