To make way for a major upgrades, the Brooklyn Park Senior Activity Center will close its doors at the end of the business day Thursday, Sept. 27, the Anne Arundel County Department of Aging and Disabilities said.

The 2,000 square-foot renovation will create three additional classroom activity spaces. The entrance will be converted into a welcoming reception area, preventing outdoor weather from affecting the community room.

The renovation will cost $1,682,000. It will be the first time the activity center will receive funding through a stand-alone Capital Improve Project since 2006. The project was designed by Gannet Flemming, Inc. and construction will be handled by Tech Contracting of Baltimore and Development Facilitators, Inc. Renovations should be completed by July 30, 2019.

During renovations, members of the center can go to the Pasadena and Pascal Senior Activity Centers. The traditional Korean-American meal on Wednesday can be had at the Cedar-Morris Hill community center.
