LINTHICUM, Md. (WMAR) — A flight passenger who recently traveled to China was treated for flu-like symptoms after arriving at BWI airport Saturday.

According to the Maryland Health Department, the person didn't meet the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention criteria for coronavirus testing but was referred to a medical facility for evaluation to determine whether additional follow-up was necessary.

"Per guidance from the CDC, no special action was indicated for this person or for any other passengers or crew on the flight," said a spokeswoman with the Health Department, who also confirmed that the person has been released.

The incident comes amid the growing number of those diagnosed with the coronavirus, a new respiratory disease that has sickened nearly 2000 people and killed 56, almost all in Wuhan, China.

There have been four confirmed cases in the United States, the latest which was reported Sunday in Los Angeles.
