DAVIDSONVILLE, Md. — A stolen car crashed through the Davidsonville Country Market Sunday morning.
It happened just after 12:45 a.m. at 801 W. Central Avenue.
Due to severe structural damage to the building, and to prevent it from collapsing, it took fire crews about 90-minutes to rescue the driver, 43-year-old Derrell Lamont Smith.
Once rescued, he was taken by helicopter to University of Maryland Prince George's Hospital Center with serious injuries.
Anne Arundel County Police later found out the car was stolen in Prince George's County and had drugs inside.
It remains unclear as to how Smith ended up driving into the building.
Police say criminal charges are pending.
