Comptroller Peter Franchot honored the Annapolis Police Department's 150th anniversary Monday with a proclamation.

"Without public safety and law enforcement, there is no economy," said Franchot. "People are not going to feel comfortable shopping on Main street if it's not safe. So, police are an integral part of our state economy."

The Annapolis Police Department was established on June 17, 1867 with a chief and four officers.

The department plans to have its Annapolis Police Boat all decked out for the 150th anniversary during the Eastport Yacht Club Parade of Light on Saturday, Dec. 9.
