PASADENA, Md. — A flagger at a construction site in Pasadena is in critical condition after being hit by a car, according to the Anne Arundel County Police Department.

Just before 11 a.m., officers responded to the crash in the 800 block of Pasadena Road near Baltimore Annapolis Boulevard.

According to police, 26-year-old Shane Shorter was driving a Chevrolet eastbound on Pasadena Road, did not see a construction worker holding a stop/slow sign, and hit her. Shorter stayed at the scene and the worker was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The worker has not been identified at this time, but police say it is a 30-year-old woman who was hit.

The preliminary cause of the crash appears to be the driver's failure to see the worker and police say there is no indication of excessive speed or alcohol use. The Traffic Safety Section is handing the investigation and the case will be reviewed by the States Attorney.

As a result of the incident, Pasadena Road was closed between Pasadena Elementary School and B&A Boulevard.
