ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, Md. — The Anne Arundel County Police Crisis Intervention Team was honored, as team of the year for their service and work they've done in the county.
Since 2014, the team which includes the pairing of police and mental health professionals, has helped people with mental illness change from criminal justice custody into healthcare.
The team also figures out how the community can benefit from mental health intervention and resources.
Many people for the past few months have asked for reform and new ways for police to deescalate. The department is proud to commend this team for doing just that.
“I’ve only been in this office for a year and a half and I learned that we have what I think is the best police department in the country. Maybe the world now I know that we have the best crisis intervention team in the world."
Two years ago, one of the team's officer was recognized as the international crisis intervention team officer.
This year the team gets to celebrate another victory for not only their department, but for Anne Arundel County as well.
