A 14-year vet tech veteran is taking matters into her own hands when it comes to helping animal shelters in Harvey's path.
"This is just kind of an extra incentive to get people who want to help, but maybe don't know how to," says Jess Buss of Pasadena. "And you get a bonus, You get your dog's nails trimmed."
Buss runs a door-to-door pet grooming service. This week, 100 percent of her proceeds will go towards pets stranded and rescued in Texas. She says the pictures and videos from the massive floods were just too much to take.
"I was an emotional wreck," she says. "Just seeing the devastation, people being forced to leave their homes, not being able to take their pets."
Since the hurricane made landfall, hundreds of animals have been pulled from the flood waters.
Now, Buss' dog nail "clip-a-thon" aims to get those animals back on their paws.
"It's awesome," says regular customer Brenda Smith, "I'll give her more than she's asking for."
The goal is to raise $500, but word is spreading fast. Buss got to 10 houses on Monday, raising over $200 that day alone. At the end of the week, she'll order food and equipment to be delivered to Texas shelters in need.
"Their resources right now are shot. They're running out of water. They're running out of space, out of food," Buss said. "Anything that we can do to help, ease anything, even if it's feed a couple dogs, we want to do that."
