To honor her memory and in recognition of her desire to serve her community, the family of a Capital Gazette victim hosted a blood drive over the weekend.

Wendi Winters was one of the five victims of the gazette shooting back on June 28.

She served the Annapolis community for more than a decade as a volunteer and as an employee of the Capital Gazette.

Winters' began organizing community blood drives after 9/11, resulting in about 9 gallons of blood being donated throughout her lifetime.

Due to a blood emergency this summer, The American Red Cross is in urgent need of donors of all blood types.
