Posted

Anne Arundel County police officers are getting ready for a bike ride honoring their fallen comrades.

Four officers left Tuesday for New Jersey for the Police Unity Tour. It's a 300 mile bike ride from New Jersey to Washington. D.C.

The ride promotes awareness for law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty.

"A lot of officers lose their lives and you know you hear 'that's what you signed up for,' but that's not what we signed up for," said Erica Mahan with the Anne Arundel County Police department. "We signed up to help and make a difference, not to lose our lives and these officers who have lost their live deserve to brought home to their families in style and that's what we are doing."

Nearly 1,000 riders will come through the Annapolis area Saturday around 9 a.m. The best locations to see the tour are on the corner of Defense Highway and Housley Road, as well as Rt. 424 between Rt. 450 and Rt. 3.

The Police Unity Tour finishes at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C.
