ANNAPOLIS, Md. — A gas leak at the Lawyer's Mall construction site has forced state buildings to evacuate in Annapolis.
The fire department and BGE are working in the area of Bladen and Calvert Streets.
At about 1:17 p.m. on Tuesday, units were called to Bladen Street and Calvert Street for a reported gas leak with possible flash fire.
When units arrived, they found a strong odor of gas around several state buildings and a construction crew doing work underground in the area. State buildings were evacuated.
Crews investigated the area and BGE was notified. BGE found a 4” underground gas main that was hit and isolated the leak at about 3:32 p.m.
Officials say construction crews were removing an old steam line when they smelled the odor of gas.
While no smell was detected in any of the buildings, an odor remains outside.
BGE is still looking for the source to stop the leak.
Several roads in the area remain closed.
