The first day of school is less than two weeks away and on Wednesday Anne Arundel County's Board of Education is talking about just how prepared schools are to welcome back students.

Elementary school students, along with kids starting as new students at middle school or high school in the sixth and ninth grade, will go back to school on Tuesday, September 4. All other students will start classes on Wednesday, September 5.

But there are a few exceptions for five Anne Arundel County Public Schools, Corkran Middle School, Brock Bridge, George Cromwell, High Point, and Richard Henry Lee Elementary Schools will open one day late because of construction delays.

So those schools also will open on Wednesday, September 5.

Speaking of construction, Wednesday morning the Board of Education will discuss the status of construction of the Crofton Area High School. It's the first new high school built from the ground up in the county since 1982.

Also on the agenda, an update on state-mandated water safety testing which continues this fall. This comes after unacceptable levels of lead were found in the drinking water at 19 schools last week.
