Politicians and dignitaries included Governor Glendening, Governor Ehrlich and Governor Christie from New Jersey along with the Ambassador from South Korea.
The governor said he and his father had many conversations about politics.
"I'm going to miss those calls, hearing his voice, getting his advice," Gov. Hogan said.
It was an emotional eulogy that included some levity.
"My father would have been proud to know that four governors attended his funeral, including every single living Republican governor in Maryland."
Archbishop William Lori, a longtime family friend of the Hogans, delivered the homily. Governor Hogan spoke for more than 14 minutes about his father, including a tearful conversation he and his father had the night Larry Hogan Jr. won the election for governor.
"I have been proud of my father my entire life, but it was at that very moment I was aware just how proud he was of me," Gov. Hogan said. "Our hearts are broken today. With him goes a part of us, but his legacy will long be remembered and his spirit will live on in our hearts and the lives of the loving family and the countless friends that he leaves behind."
