Light RailLink service between the system's Patapsco station and the Cromwell and BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport stations will resume Aug. 20 after concerns about erosion prompted service suspensions, the Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Transit Administration said Tuesday.
Heavy rains contributed to the original station closures, and continued wet weather has delayed the repairs, MDOT MTA said. Free shuttle buses between the affected stations will remain in service until the Light RailLink is fully restored.
To handle future erosion concerns, MDOT MTA will construct a 36-inch drain pipe under the tracks in the area of the Twin Oaks Light RailLink grade crossing. A 1,200-foot-long concrete drain will also be added to minimize flooding, along with further stabilization on the hillside next to the tracks.
