Man arrested for trying to steal car moments after robbing 7-Eleven

FERNDALE, Md. — A man was arrested a on New Year's Day after police say he robbed a 7-Eleven and then tried to steal someone's car in the convenience store parking lot.

Around 3:30 p.m., police say a man walked into the 7-Eleven at 7179 Baltimore Annapolis Boulevard and demanded money. The clerk opened the register and the man, later identified as 32-year-old Samuel Edward Phillips, stole a small amount of money.

Phillips then ran out of the store, confronted a customer in the parking lot, and threatened to shoot them if they did not give them a ride out of the area. The customer refused to give up their car and Phillips ran away.

Police arrived to the store and searched the area for Phillips, finding him only a short distance away. Phillips was arrested and charged with robbery, second-degree assault, theft less than $100, and other related charges.

No weapons were used and no injuries were reported.
