PASADENA, Md. — A 44-year-old man was struck and killed on Ritchie Highway late Wednesday night, Anne Arundel County Police said.
Officers responded to the accident on southbound MD-2, just north of Arnold Road in Arnold, at about 11:50 p.m. on Dec. 19.
Police said a 2009 Toyota Highlander traveling south on the road struck the pedestrian as he was walking in the roadway. Police identified the pedestrian as William Marcus Jones, of the 700 block of Church Street in Cambridge. Jones was pronounced dead at the scene by responding fire department personnel.
The driver of the Toyota, 73-year-old Barbara Lee Lowndes of Edgewater, was uninjured. Investigators say the preliminary cause of the accident was Jones’ failure to yield to traffic in the roadway and his failure to walk facing traffic. The final details of their investigation will be reviewed by the Anne Arundel County State’s Attorney’s Office, police said.
