Man taken to hospital after crashing stolen delivery driver's car in Severn

SEVERN — A man was taken to the hospital after stealing a delivery driver's car and crashing into two cars while fleeing from police.

On Saturday at about 4:00 p.m., officers responded to a report of an armed carjacking in the 1800 block of Eagle Court in Severn.

A woman delivery driver reported she was carjacked by an unknown man. Police say the man entered the passenger side of the victim's vehicle, a white 2017 Honda, threatened her with a knife and demanded the vehicle.

According to police, the victim got out of the vehicle at which time the suspect drove away in the victim’s vehicle toward Reece Road.

An officer observed the vehicle near Reece Road and Telegraph Road and tried to stop the vehicle. The vehicle then fled toward Quarterfield Road.

Officers tried to pursue the vehicle but lost sight of it on Quarterfield Road. Officers then located the vehicle on Quarterfield Road near Old Stage Road where it had crashed and overturned, hitting two vehicles, causing disabling damage.

The suspect was thrown from the carjacked vehicle. An officer rendered medical aid to the suspect who was transported to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center with life-threatening injuries.

The drivers and passengers of the other vehicles were uninjured. The victim of the carjacking was not injured.

Criminal charges are pending the suspect’s release from the hospital.
