A man is dead after he was hit by a car on Southbound MD-295 at I-695 Tuesday night.
Maryland State Police confirmed the pedestrian, who was wearing dark clothing, was standing in the middle of the road for an unknown reason when he was struck and killed.
Officials say the incident involved one vehicle, and the operator remained on scene. They also say that the driver attempted to stop and swerved to the right, but was unable to avoid hitting the man.
All Southbound MD 295 lanes were closed so troopers could find the man who was hit. He was found around a quarter of a mile from where the driver had stopped. Paramedics immediately tried life-saving measures but declared the man dead at the scene.
The road was reopened shortly before midnight. Police are still unsure as to why the man was standing on the road.
