MILLERSVILLE, Md. — Two adults and five children were displaced from their Laurel home following a basement fire Saturday, Anne the Arundel County Fire Department said.

A passerby called 911 after seeing smoke coming from a one-story, single-family dwelling in the 400 block of Old Line Avenue at about 1:48 p.m. Saturday.

The blaze was found and extinguished in roughly 15 minutes by the 33 responding fire personnel. The house was searched for trapped occupants, but none were found. The home’s residents were not home at the time of the fire. The flames were determined to have originated from the laundry room, fire officials said. The Red Cross is helping the house’s seven occupants who are currently displaced.

Anyone with information about the fire should contact Anne Arundel County Fire Department Fire and Explosives Investigation Unit at 410-222-8477 or via the Arson Tip Form.
