DAVIDSONVILLE, Md. — An armed volunteer firefighter who was shot by a police officer Friday night in Anne Arundel County has died.

The man, now identified as 56-year-old Martin Allen Goodier, of Bowie, died at an area hospital on Tuesday shortly after 4:40 a.m..

Anne Arundel County Police say Goodier threatened Fire and EMS crews who responded to a crash call at Route 50 and Davidson Road.

Arriving officers, including 20-year veteran, Corporal R. Heller, confronted Goodier and ordered him to drop the knife he was holding. He allegedly refused to comply, at which point Heller fired his gun once, striking Goodier.
