A suspicious smell coming from a classroom at the Naval Academy prompted an evacuation of two buildings and an investigation of the smell's cause Thursday morning, the Naval Academy said.
The smell was reported by eight midshipmen who said the odor had entered a classroom they were in in Michelson Hall, which houses the Academy's Chemistry department. Naval Academy Fire and Emergency Services responded to Michelson Hall and the adjacent Chauvenet Hall. Both buildings were evacuated as a precaution.
The eight midshipmen were medically evaluated but no potential injuries were reported, and they were walking around and breathing normally, the Academy said.
The smell was thought to have been a result of a chemistry project from the previous day, the Academy said.
