LINTHICUM, Md. (WMAR) — With less than three weeks left in 2019, TSA agents at BWI Airport have broken an all time record for guns seized.

The 27th gun of the year was a loaded .25 caliber handgun found inside the carry-on bag of a Sparks man.

An X-Ray machine detected the gun during a routine scan at one of the airport's security check points.

TSA officials say the man told agents he'd previously gone to a shooting range and forgot the gun was still in the bag.

Maryland Transportation Authority Police later arrested the man on weapons charges. His name was not released.

This year's number of guns recovered breaks the record of 26 set last year.

TSA agents tied that record in October, when they confiscated a 9mm semiautomatic handgun from the carry-on bag of an Annapolis man.
