LINTHICUM, Md. — TSA officers at BWI Airport spotted a gun in a Pennsylvania man's carry-on bag at a security checkpoint.
Officials say the man was found in possession of a .32 caliber handgun loaded with eight bullets, including one in the chamber. The man told officers that he forgot he had a loaded gun.
The Maryland Transportation Authority Police were notified, arrived at the checkpoint, confiscated the firearm and detained the man for questioning before arresting him on weapons charges.
With eight months into the 2019 year, officers have caught 22 guns at checkpoints. Nationwide last year, 4,239 firearms were discovered in carry-on bags at checkpoints across the country.
