MILLERSVILLE, Md. — Police are investigating two separate deadly crashes Monday in Anne Arundel County.
The first happened around 3:54 p.m. near Town Center and Charter Oaks Boulevard in Severn.
A Kia went off the right side of the road and struck a curb and into a tree. The driver, identified as 33-year-old Peggie Elisabeth Chapman died on scene. A 4-year-old passenger suffered serious injuries.
Investigators don't believe speed was a factor but say Chapman failed to remain in a single lane, likely causing the crash.
Later around 9:30 p.m., officers responding to an unrelated call found a GMC Yukon on its side in the middle of Riva Road near Beards Point Road.
The driver, Zakary Sunrise Hubbard, 38, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police think Hubbard lost control of the car while traveling around a curve, causing it to rotate counter-clockwise and cross the center-line where it struck an embankment and tree.
Alcohol, drugs, and speed are believed to have played a role, police say.
Any witnesses to this crash are asked to call 410-222-4700.
