8-year-old girl Amirah Kinlaw was struck and killed near Steuart Hill Academic Academy Thursday afternoon.
Police responded to the 1700 block of Ramsey Street at approximately 2:20 p.m. for reports of suspicious activity. The officer canvassed the area and found the driver of a stolen Jeep Liberty in the 300 block of S. Gilmor Street.
The officer activated her lights and sirens and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The suspect then fled from police traveling northbound on Gilmor Street.
The suspect drove through the red light at the intersection of S. Gilmor Street and W. Lombard Street, striking a vehicle that was traveling westbound on Lombard Street. The suspect then struck a crossing guard and an 8-year-old girl before striking several parked cars.
The suspect ditched the vehicle and fled on foot.
Kinlaw was taken to Johns Hopkins Pediatrics where she was pronounced dead. The crossing guard, an adult female, was taken to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
A second motorist who was struck was transported to an area hospital and is listed in critical condition. A 9-year-old boy who was struck by flying debris was taken to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He was treated and released.
