BALTIMORE — The Archbishop of Baltimore will meet with senior church leaders this Tuesday to talk about how to bring renewal and reform to the church.
This comes following the results of a recent Gallup poll that shows Catholics may be losing confidence in the church. The poll shows only 31 percent of Catholics positively rate the clergy’s honesty as high. A near 50 percent drop from 2017.
The results also show less than half of the number of Catholics have confidence in organized religion. More than half say religion is a very important part of their lives. Faith in the church was shaken by the 2002 worldwide child sex abuse scandal.
Since then, the Archdiocese of Baltimore has released the names of nearly 100 priests and brothers accused of abuse.
The church seems to be searching for a way to turn those numbers around and restore faith for those who may have lost it.
