BALTIMORE — After a build up of subterranean pressure caused a “manhole incident” in Mount Vernon Tuesday, District 11 Councilman Eric Costello shared a statement from Baltimore Gas and Electric about the incident and utility service that may be affected.

“On May 14, damage to nearby underground electric cables caused a pressure build up and subsequent release through area manhole covers,” read the statement Costello shared via tweet. “The result was a brief electric service interruption for several customers and some property damage.”

The incident occurred Tuesday afternoon along E. Hamltion Street, at N. Lovegrove Street. BGE said no one was injured, and crews were restoring service and making final repairs to underground electric lines.

The company thanked residents for their patience and understanding in regards to the event and service interruption. Anyone who may have additional questions or who may have experienced any damage related to the incident should contact BGE at 800-685-0123.
