BALTIMORE (WMAR) — Police have officially charged a man for assaulting and killing his 59-year-old mother on Monday.

Tyrell Barnes, 30, is charged with first degree murder in the death of Constance Price-Barnes.

Prior to being charged, police say Barnes underwent a psychiatric evaluation at Johns Hopkins Hospital.

Officers found Price-Barnes suffering from massive trauma to her head inside her home in the 800 block of Wilbert Avenue.

When police got to the scene, neighbors were restraining Barnes outside.

Neighbors told them Barnes was speaking out of sorts but heard him say that he'd hurt his mother.

One of those neighbors told WMAR-2 News that Barnes used a bat to beat his mother.

Barnes was taken to the hospital that night at which point detectives obtained a warrant for his arrest.
