BALTIMORE — The Baltimore City Health Department recognized local caregivers at its annual Family Caregivers Conference on Wednesday.

The conference is held to address some of the challenges that they face daily. More than half of all caregivers say they are overwhelmed with their jobs and it prevents them from spending time with their friends and family.

"This is a time for us to gain more information on how to be better caregivers as well as how to be caregivers for ourselves," said Dee Fowlkes, a caregiver. "We have to take care of ourselves, as well as being a good caregiver for someone that we love."

The conference addressed challenges such as emotional and physical stress, financial strain, depression and isolation.

Resources were also offered to attendees.
