City breaks ground on West Baltimore community park

Posted

After years of work, the city is finally breaking ground for a community park in West Baltimore.

The upcoming renovations to ABC (Ashton, Bentalou, and Catherine Streets) Park will be done in summer 2019 and will include many improvements that are needed in this community.

“We have got so many people in this neighborhood and community who wanted to see this change take place, and I can you when we do the build-out, you all will be happy,” explained Mayor Pugh at the groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday.

The updated park will include a new 800-square-foot indoor/outdoor field house for ongoing park activities, an interactive splash pad, upgraded and expanded playground with swings and climbing structure, state-of-the-art outdoor fitness equipment, a new outdoor basketball court, new fencing, modern amenities including new seating, gathering spaces, bike racks, and much more.

“It’s really about our young people. We want to make sure our young people have clean, safe, adequate places for them to play and recreate, so again this is a wonderful day,” said Councilman John T. Bullock.

While there is no set date for the completion of the project, the park will serve as a focal point for the Baltimore City Recreation and Parks Department while they host the 2019 NRPA Conference.
