BALTIMORE — When Baltimore City's Department of Public Works announced recycling curbside pickup would be suspended for an uncertain amount of time, Midtown Baltimore mobilized.

"We are providing a solution that we can kind of squeeze in," said Nan Rohrer, president of the Midtown Community Benefits District. "Wherever people can be pitching in and helping out one another, it’s really the only way to get the stuff done."

Starting Thursday at 9 a.m. crews will spend time at various locations where people can drop off items that are recyclable.

"What we’re asking people is to go over and above on following the rules," said Rohrer. "Please do not bring anything in a plastic bag. Please do not bring us your trash. Please do not bring us your yard waste. Bring us your recyclables cleaned out in a cardboard box or in paper bags."

Please note the following stipulations for service

• First come, first serve basis. Once the truck is full, crews will not be able to accept any more items.

• Please wear a mask and practice social distancing.

• As with regular recycling, items must be in paper bags or cardboard boxes. NO PLASTIC BAGS are allowed.

• Please make sure cans and bottles are dry with no liquid remaining in them.

• NO TRASH will be accepted. Please note this includes yard waste, bulk, or household trash.
