BALTIMORE — A deceased dolphin was found in the Canton waterfront area on Wednesday.
National Aquarium officials believe the dolphin was the same one spotted swimming in the area on May 9.
At the time, aquarium staff didn't intervene out of concerns for the dolphin's safety and because it appeared to be freely swimming in deep waters and not stranded.
Until Wednesday, the dolphin had not been seen since 7 p.m., on the day of the original sighting.
Officials say it's irregular for dolphins to be seen swimming in areas such as the harbor.
The dolphin's body has since been recovered by Maryland's Department of Natural Resources, who will conduct an exam.
