The 102-year-old Hanover Street Bridge is going to have some much-needed work done to it beginning this spring.
The goal is to do a complete renovation of the bridge, but that's going to take time and cost a lot of money. This has been a priority for Councilman Eric Costello, who sent the department of transportation a letter requesting upgrades to the Hanover Street Bridge.

Costello tweeted a letter he received from the DOT's Director Michelle Pourciau which acknowledges the repairs needed.
Response from DOT to letter from @CouncilmanER and me on the need for immediate repairs to the Vietnam Veterans' Memorial Bridge. I hope to have more clarification after our 4pm meeting today with the @BmoreCityDOT Director. pic.twitter.com/9gQ0aVlSsJ

The two met Monday afternoon to discuss what needs to be done to the bridge, which if you have ever driven on it you know what a bumpy ride it is.
Pourciau says there is an interim plan in place to make immediate repairs and extend the life of the bridge. Construction will begin this spring once the temperatures warm up, and she says in the letter the long-term renovation plan comes with a hefty price tag of $100 million and will take six to nine years to complete.
