Kinetic Sculpture Race readies to roll through Baltimore

Posted

A Baltimore spectacle takes to the streets Saturday as the American Vision Arts Museum's Kinetic Sculpture Race celebrates its 20th anniversary.

Elaborate rolling art displays navigate city streets, the harbor, and mud and sand pits in Patterson Park. A showcase of creativity, mechanical know how, and sheer grit, the race becomes a rolling street part as these contraptions traverse Federal Hill, across the city to Canton, and on to the obstacles of the park.

The museum unleashes its own "mascot" in the race, "Fiffy," a poodle-like two-seater float that got a new blue dye job as it fills the role of Babe the Blue Ox to fit in the AVAM's "Legends and Tall Tales" theme.
